Despite the optimistic and righteous say, most human beings are visual and frivolous creatures. Most of the time, one’s motivation to pick up a skill or a piece of clothing or a gadget doesn’t wander too far from “cool”. With that in mind, METROFARM, has probably created the coolest DJ Desk we have seen and would absolutely drive many to pick up DJing. Based in Berlin, METROFARM is a design studio run by Julia and Nunu. The studio has a roster of clients such as Nike, 55DSL, ABSOLUT Vodka, Idee, Pioneer and BEAMS. The high end DJ Desks created by METROFARM are crafted specifically to the DJ’s equipment, and some of the models built here come in a variety of style and installation methods. There is minimalist yet party-worthy stainless steel number with mixers and turntables embedded into them; a bright orange legless number that is bubbling 60s; a nature-inspired woody number….and sorts. Rather than the usual boring black boxy platform of a DJ stand, these will make the most important equipment of a bar/club as swanky as the place itself, and definitely be the enviable fixture in any home.

The Mighty Mos Def has been on a roll of late. Capped off by a Grammy nod for his album “The Ecstatic,” Mos Def has enjoyed critical success, and he keeps releasing more heat, like this track called 24 Hour Karate School. Mos tackles this beat co-produced by Ski Beatz  and Apple Juice Kid that samples a breakbeat classic called “Hook & Sling” by Eddie Bo. The beat has a staccato snare and shouts (and even a Tribe Called Quest sample from “Oh My God”). Graffiti legend and artist FUTURA visited Japan recently for the Stussy x FUTURA LABORATORIES “Live in Tokyo” event. For those fortunate enough to be in Tokyo witnessed the spray can master in motion yet for most of us out of Tokyo, here is a view of what went down as well as a short interview with FUTURA by Defrag, a Japanese online magazine.Watch as FUTURA delves into his past, views on the present and the future while the footage of the live painting also plays simultaneously. New Balance x Almond x Dash!Yonkuro - M574A

This is the seventh time that Japanese brand Almond have produced exclusive sneakers with New Balance and this time they have found an unlikely inspiration from a Japanese comic “Dash! Yonkuro“.
“Dash! Yonkuro” is a comic based on mini four wheel drive toy cars and the colors of this particular M574A is from the toy car of the main character. The upper consists of primarily patent leather with white toe box and heel section while the side section is orange with yellow N on top of it. The same yellow is reflected on the heel tag and the heel support. Black is used on the toe mesh, side, shoe laces, inner lining, midsole and outsole with the blue tongue embroidered with black 496 which stands for Yonkuro in Japanese. In 1953, the Central
Intelligence Agency (CIA) enlisted the help of professional magician John Mulholland to adapt his craft of trickery and deception to espionage, and the project was later documented in what is know as the Lost Magic Manual. According to BBC News, “”the guide was part of a larger CIA programme, called Project MKULTRA, aimed at countering the Soviet mind-control techniques of the Cold War era”. While the legendary manuals were believed to have been destroyed in 1973, intelligence historian H. Keith Melton and retired CIA officer Robert Wallace discovered a copy in the declassified CIA archives. The manual of tricks and techniques used for the CIA interrogation program during the Cold War includes placing pills in drinks, stealing documents and avoiding detection. A manual of maneuvers and operational procedures crafted by the top minds of the world is now available for all to peruse. 2009 has been an eventful year for Yeezy. First the launch of the highly coveted Nike Air Yeezy’s, then a collaboration line with Louis Vuitton, the VMA stint with Taylor Swift, cancellation of his tour with Lady Gaga…yet the year is not ending yet for Mister Kanye West. Sure the year had been filled with happy retail moments, creative moments and scandalous paparazzi-worthy time in the limelight, but Yeezy seems determined to wrap up 2009 on a good note. In comes a collaborative project between the Kanye West Foundation and retailer Karmaloop. The duo joined hands to create a fund raising auction where fans and lovers can purchase autographed items straight from Kanye’s Closet. Some of the hit items we have known and some have desired at one point of time or another includes an autographed copy of the Glow In The Dark book published by Rizzoli, an autographed “Loop Dreams” tee and a pair of autographed tan Nike Air Yeezy. All proceeds from the auction will go towards the Kanye West Foundation. For the unfamiliar, the Kanye West Foundation provides opportunity for young people to engage and participate in creative and performance arts. Why watch over ebay like a hawk and fork over your money to sneaker traders for a pair of Yeezy this year when you can pool your money for a better cause and earn Kanye’s autograph? Hugh Hefner is a role model. And, that is a statement, not a question. After being denied a five dollar raise at Esquire Magazine, the original Playboy took his pride and left for greener pastures. He raised $8,000 from investors (including his mother whom according to Hef, believed in her son, not the venture) leased out his furniture, and launched Playboy in 1953. Since then, the magazine had grown into an empire of its own that is built on a deeper foundation than just sex, contrary to popular belief. While it is easier to associate Playboy with its notorious and attractive centerfold girls, the publication is actually known for in-depth, prominent features with interviews of iconic personalities such as Martin Luther King, John Lennon, Richard Nixon and Roman Polanski.
To fully delve into the life of Hef, TASCHEN decided simply one volume would not be sufficient to do the man justice. After all, for a man who has legitimized the robe as appropriate public attire for himself, the tribute should run a little deeper than that. Thus, Hef’s biography takes on a hefty illustrated form of six sumptuous volumes documenting both the man’s life and the first 25 years of Playboy. The anthology holds never-seen-before artwork, correspondence and 700 pages of personal text. For those who are fans of the publication which has not only changed the landscape of publishing but also the entertainment industry (which other mansion will ever top the Playboy mansion?), the tome is limited to 1,500 sets and each is individually autographed by Hef himself. Martial artist and actor Bruce Lee is a legend who popularized the action movies which focused on real action rather than Hollywood fiction. Though his career was cut short by a tragic accident his legacy still lives on till this day. One of the most famous movies which starred Bruce Lee was Enter the Dragon in which he showcased his fighting skills and also it was the last movie that featured Lee as he passed away before the release of the film.
Nike Zoom Kobe V pays homage to the fallen star with the Bruce Lee edition sneaker taking inspiration from the most iconic colors of Bruce Lee. The yellow and black colorways are taken directly from the jumpsuit that Lee wore in the 1978 film “The Game of Death” and it is translated on the Laker’s yellow upper, laces and midsole with black accents and Swoosh. Another graphic symbol Lee is known for is the four blood red claw marks that signify the damage he took in the 1973 film “Enter The Dragon” and that is reflected on the side of the toe section and in the red color on the heel. Desert freshness!!!!!

Not trying to be cheesy, but there is an overwhelming and slightly delirious sense of accomplishment when one makes a triumphant progress when shredding that can only be paralleled if not surpassed by walking on the moon. Thus, it seems extremely fitting that Nike Snowboarding’s upcoming special release Zoom Force 1 snow boots for pro-snowboarder Danny Kass are inspired by astronaut’s “moon boots”. Interestingly, unlike the other Zoom Force 1 releases, this Danny Kass version features a unique double tongue system and a lace lock. Back to aesthetics, the boots is a mix of patterned black leather Swoosh, reflective silver accents, plaid panels, red lining and light blue outsoles. USA and Canadian flags decorate the tongues.
