In the merging world of art and technology, none has projected such seamless synergy between the 2 realms till the introduction of BMW Art Car, currently in its 35th year. In helping to inaugurate this milestone, the Munich-base automaker announced earlier this week the collaborator on the program’s 17th edition. – the international acclaimed Neo-Pop artist Jeff Koons.
Both parties expressed interest in the Art Car partnership some 7 years ago and finalized the agreement with an official announcement at Koons’ studio in New York City. A small group of family, friends, and fans of both the artist and BMW were also present including Jim O’Donnell, President of BMW North America, architect Richard Meier, and Dorothy Lichtenstein, wife of the late and former BMW Art Car contributor, Roy Lichtenstein. Aside from Lichtenstein, Koons will join 15 other art luminaries such as Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Jenny Holzer, Olafur Eliasson, Matazo Kayama, David Hockney, and more…The model along with the preliminary designs will be announced at a later date. The Jeff Koons BMW Art Car will be unveiled sometime near the end of this year.
