Coincidence or not, BAPE (A Bathing Ape) made the decision to release the newest addition to its timepiece collection towards the end of BASELWORLD, the world’s largest luxury watch tradeshow. The first in chronograph form, the watch, dubbed BAPEX 3, embodied all the functions of simple chronograph complications – stop watch, functional bezel with units, and more… with a humorous statement of “Made By Human” imprinted on the dial. Encased in an aluminum alloy casing, the watch is resistant to water and minor scratches. Comes in a solid polished black or silver/black design, accompanied by BAPE Camouflage Cloth Case made for it exclusively. The BAPEX 3 Chronograph is now for sale at all BAPE boutiques in Japan, its BAPE LAND online store, and soon at its international location.

Dr. Martens 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Collection
Dr Souk
50 years ago, when people still wrote letters instead of emailed, bought records instead of downloaded, an unlikely matrimony happened between people from different lands. Dr. Klaus Maerten in Munich was an aspiring inventor with a garage full of failed and successful experiments, and amongst the knickknacks he had gathered through the years lies a very important one that would change his life and many others– shoe soles that felt like they were made from air. Moving on to England, the Griggs family resided in Northampton and had a glorious family tradition of making quality shoes. Through classified advertisement in a magazine, Dr. Maerten and the Griggs met, and very soon after, the first pair of Dr. Martens 1460 boot was born on April 1, 1960– and mind you, it was no April Fools’ joke.
When the Dr. Martens 1460 boot was first introduced, its comfortable soles and hard-wearing quality made it a hit among the good old blue collar workers who labor and sweat to feed their families. However, not long after, the boots were quickly picked up by rebels for its grass root, working class appeal. Even though these rebels were divided in their styles and cause– the punks, the ska, the mods, the goths, the psychobillies, the industrialists, the grunge…just to name a few– everyone with a statement to make and a cause to rebel and scream and shout were stomping the status quo to the ground.
Just yesterday, Dr. Martens kick-started its 50th Anniversary celebration on the dot of its 50th birthday. And aside from a mammoth collaborative music campaign rallying ten contemporary bands and ten film directors to celebrate the landmark birthday, the label is also launching a 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Collection of the 1460 boots and 1461 shoes. The special 50th Anniversary Limited Collection sports the boots and shoes in Dr. Martens original colors– Cherry Red and Black. However, the birthday twist lies in the pebbled leather upper, which updates the classics in a gorgeous, textured look that is more matte than the original. Also, the boots and shoes feature gold heel loops and eyelets. The boots come in an extremely limited run of 1460 pairs for the 1460 and 1461 pairs of the 1461. They are available now at select retailers such as Opening Ceremony, so celebrate the rebel you are and get a pair before they stomp their ways out!
Coca-Cola x Karl Lagerfeld – Limited Edition Box Set
Drink a coke with a little soukness
As such, the man who dresses women who are affixed with style and impeccable self-presentation has teamed up with the choice drink for the exact same audience to create a limited edition Coca Cola Light box set. The Coca Cola Light aluminum bottle is dressed up in Karl Lagerfeld’s side profile silhouette, with his signature suite and pony tail easy distinguishable. The box set comes housed in a specially designed box which looks like a closet, with a discreet drawer hiding an accompanying bottle opener. The box set will be previewed from April 24 at colette, and is available for pre-order now on colette E-Shop. More so a collector’s item than a quick drink, we can only say that a better way to lose weight than switching from regular to light is to not drink any.
John Galliano Homme – Spring/Summer 2010 – Sneakers
John Galliano goes all souk on us..
A scene of exploration as designer John Galliano recreated the 1798 Egyptian Campaign by Napoleon Bonaparte and his Armée d’Orient. Though eventually doomed, the military campaign was instead an academic bonanza with establishment of cultural exchange and archeological discoveries, including the all-important Rosetta Stone.
On this premise, Galliano introduced his Spring/Summer 2010 Collection last Fall with the concept of “The Grand Tour”, from the gallantry of Napoleon and his men, through onto the amalgamation of characters and cultures in Egypt at the time, a sentiment quite apparent on the sneakers’ designs. Baroque details on patent leather overlays with premium leather as the base, Galliano’s sneakers have the feel of partially constructed: exposed lining that doubles as breathable mesh, large voids along the angle straps, and etc… Then the designer utilized contrast colorways to emphasis each element of the design. Comes in 3 different color schemes, the sneaker collection for John Galliano Homme is currently available at selective boutiques around the world, including RESTIR of Tokyo

This season, the Italian atelier (who has been under

New Balance – Japanimation CM1500
Souk Balance
New Balance is putting out heat even on their general releases with great color schemes that would look great with shorts. The theme behind these two pieces are Japanimation and especially the robot animations. Using a good amount of materials, suede, nubuck and leather on its upper and accent that with few high light colors that add extra punch without killing the whole balance. Two versions are made that look totally different from each other. Blue version is toned down in blue and gray palette while the black/gray version is highlighted by the use of pink, white and orange in key areas. Both of these items are scheduled for early April drop so check into your nearest New Balance dealers. via: mita sneakers

BAPE X United Arrows – Mr. BATHING APE Collectio
Souk smart bape
by: soukman
The much anticipated Mr. BATHING APE Collection from Japan’s
A Bathing Ape (aka BAPE) and retail giant UNITED ARROWS
is finally available to the general consuming public.
Long been a representation of urban trends of Tokyo,
BAPE branched out from its usual fare of outrageous
prints and colorways. Instead, this exclusive collection
exemplified a more upscale touch with tailored 3-piece suiting,
fine cloth dress shirts, ties, footwear, and accessories.
However, BAPE’s creative director Nigo retained much of
the label’s originality and fun-loving nature with minute
appointments in each design, such as the mustaches
on Penny Loafers by Regal Shoes.
The BAPE x United Arrows –
Mr. BATHING APE Collection is now on sale
at 5 UA retail locations, including its Harajuku flagship.

Palladium London Pirate Radio
This one goes out to the Souk Pirates. Big up ya self.. boo-shacka.
Soukman

Recently turned into a blockbuster feature, Pirate Radio,
its eponymous movement started in the 1960s UK when
pop radio stations were broadcasting songs from offshore,
and eventually became the antithesis of BBC,
who virtually monopolized the radio.
Tapping into the rich culture and heritage of music and defiance,
Palladium drew inspiration from Pirate Radio for its relaunch in the UK
market.

The campaign follows Palladium as the label explores
through the nooks and crannies of a rusting
anti-aircraft tower at the mouth of River Thames
which was used as an offshore base of operations in the 1960s
by the original pirates. While Pirate Radio has been born,
celebrated, squandered then revived, its high permeability
in London today (they are still everywhere, hidden in plain site)
attests to its relevance and importance in the music culture and industry.
It is one of the rare gems instrumental in breaking new music
despite the growing influence of Internet these days.
