Air force soukness

Edison Chen Bespoke Air Force 1s

Edison Chen stopped by the Nike Stadium space on the Bowery last January to design his own custom Destroyer Jacket, and it looks like he also made it to 21 Mercer for some additional Nike customization while in the city. Today brought images of two pairs of Air Force 1s, customized in the way that only 21 Mercer can deliver. The first is a relatively clean shoe, with a cork-inspired upper – somewhat reminiscent of the Michael Lau Woodgrain Dunk SB – but really the cleanest use of a wood texture by Nike to date, and finished by a classic AF1 gum sole. The second pair is as wild as the first is clean – keeping the cork for the Swoosh, it works in two types of denim, patterns, and a textured toe box material. The eclectic mix is sent over the top by a zebra-print horsehair tongue. Both are as interesting as any of the best work done at 21 Mercer, and the clean cork shoe juxtaposed with it’s wild multi-textile counterpart are a good metaphor for EDC, who is commonly associated in the mainstream with scandal, while more recognized in the fashion world for his design sense. Check out both of EDC’s creations after the jump.
