ALIFE: Courtyard Souk sessions
ALIFE kicked off its iconic Courtyard Session earlier this year. Instead of sweltering NYC heat and humidity, it’s a chilly Spring night as the Rivington Street makeshift concert hall hosted NINJASONIK and Cypress Hill last evening. Part as recognition of Earth Day, but more importantly a distraction to get people’s minds of the income tax filling (yesterday was Tax Day also), the invitation-only event saw more “guests” than intended that at one point, several had to be turned away. After an hour of preparation, the concert opened with Brooklyn’s NINJASONIK. A fusion of humor and hard core lyrics, the NINJAs’ dished out their version of “tough love” to the fans, hurling insults to rev-up audience members’ intensity for the one and only – Cypress Hill. Though there was previous engagement, Cypress still made time to drop by to mingle with the hundreds gathered and introduced a few new songs from their upcoming album before ending the night with their stoner’s classic “Insane in the Brain” and anthem of anarchist “Raise Up”.
