Nike Sportswear X Maharam – Footwear
Nike Sportswear and textile development company,
maharam has a long-standing working relationship.
The duo first joined forces in 2007, when Nike
tapped maharam to produce a pair of limited edition
Air Force 1 in 2007. Back then, Nike adopted
Maharam layers that featured both embroidered
and hand cut wool felt developed in collaboration
with Dutch designer, Hella Jongerius. This time
around, maharam re-energizes the Nike classic
Dunk High for both men and women in a mix of
leather and fabric. While previous collaborations
are marked with rather complex and opulent
materials such as horsehair, Maharam keeps
things simple and sophisticated this time by
designing around the concept of varsity.
The palette for each shoe is limited to three colors,
and a bright color is always paired with a basic to
keep things from getting too wild. The result is a
collection of Dunks that translates textural depth
instead of visual bedazzlement. One of the stand-out
dunks, subtle as it actually is, is a monochrome tan
number with a maharam tan fabric upper mixed in
with a tonal Swoosh. White midsoles and gum
outsoles keep the Dunk earthy and clean, perfect
for those who adore the classic Dunk silhouette
but is also looking for a touch of maturity.
