Journey– the physical act and course of travel from one place to
another, in a romantic sense, embodies more than just moving
from point A to point B. For Louis Vuitton which started out making
suitcases that accompany men on their spiritual and physical
metamorphosis, journey is a hefty word laden with experience,
meaning and growth– it is an emotional experience that can
and often lead to self discovery. For a few years now, Louis Vuitton
has been working on the Journeys campaign with renowned
photographer, Annie Leibovitz, and has shot some of the world’s
leading personalities including the man who brought the former
Soviet Union Perestroika, Mikahail Gorbachev, French actress
Catherine Deneuve, actor Sean Connery and Keith Richards
of The Rolling Stones. This year, keeping in line with the 2010
FIFA World Cup, Louis Vuitton has worked its Journeys campaign
with soccer legends Zinedine Zidane, Pele and Diego Maradona.

with soccer legends Zinedine Zidane, Pele and Diego Maradona.
The campaign is currently live online as a microsite, featuring an
epic battle between the three greats of football– Zidane, Pele
and Maradona– duking it out on the foosball table. Though,
calmer, happier and more peaceful than perhaps the emotional
football matches these men have been in. Aside from a video
of the three football wonders, the site also features an interactive
interview where the visitor can play director and select his
interviewee and the questions he would like to ask. For instance,
to ask Maradona what his greatest football moment was, is
absolutely possible.

For those who are unfamiliar with soccer, all three men are
considered to be the greatest players of all time. Diego Maradona
was a former Argentine soccer player and current manager of
Argentine national team. He captained Argentina to World Cup
victory in 1986, which was an legendary win because the
un-penalized hand-goal earned a moniker, “The Hand of God”.
Zinedine Zidane, aside from his memorable head-butting incident
at FIFA World Cup 2006 (After which the man formerly retired
from the competitive scene), was one of the all time greats and
one of the two three-time FIFA World Cup Player Of The Year–
the other being Ronaldo. Last but not least, Pele, is more of a
soccer legend than just an exceptional player. He was named
the Football ambassador of the world by FIFA, and is also the
Brazilian national treasure. Pele won his first World Cup at a
tender age of 17 and is the all time leader scorer of the Brazil
national soccer team. he is the only player holding three World
Cup winning medals.

Even though all three men have retired, their journeys have
changed the game of soccer and left an impressionable,
permanent mark. Explore and enjoy the site, bask in the glory
of the legends, whom after their competitive careers, have
seemed to acquire a sense of composure and tranquility,
and easier put, have matured gorgeously with age, just like
that Louis Vuitton suitcase.
